Meet your Cancer Support Team
At the Emanuel Cancer Center, we want you to know that we care about your journey through this disease and that you are not alone. We offer you an entire Support Team.
Oncology Social Worker - Our oncology social workers provide practical and emotional support, counseling, education resources, and referrals to help reduce stress for you and your family through all phases of your cancer experience.
Nurse Navigator - Our nurse navigator provides personalized care to navigate and assist patients and caregivers through the Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology journey. Education and resources are also available to patients, families and supporters.
Chaplain Services - Our Chaplain serves as an integral member of the health care team providing spiritual care to patients and families affected by complex issues. Our Chaplain offers spiritual care for all who are in need and has specialized education
to mobilize spiritual resources so that patients cope more effectively.
Registered Dietitian - Nutrition plays an important role in cancer treatment. Our dietitian provides counseling to optimize your nutrition and help manage your eating problems caused by surgery, radiation and chemotherapy.
Financial Counselor - Our financial counselor offers support in a variety of ways based on each patient’s unique financial needs. Our financial counselor will explore all avenues possible in order to find programs that will help cover
patients’ out-of-pocket expenses for treatment. In addition the financial counselor will assist with handling paperwork and serve as an advocate for patients.
Cancer Support Groups
Our cancer support groups provide safe places to share your feelings and challenges. You’ll meet people you can learn from and some who are going through similar struggles. Whether you’re a survivor, caregiver or family member, we have a support
group to help you.
Among the support groups we offer:
Caregiver Support Group - Caregivers have their own unique set of needs, and this support group will provide a safe space to connect with others who have a loved one with cancer. This group is led by our social workers who provide emotional and
practical support.
New Grupo de Apoyo al Cancer en Español - Este grupo de apoyo esta disponible a pacientes adultos con cancer, cuidadores y sobrevivientes en nuestra comunidad. Capellan Javier Carrillo facilita este grupo.
Thrive Cancer Support Group - This support and education group is open to adult cancer patients, caregivers and cancer survivors in our community. It is facilitated by our social workers who discuss various topics related to coping with cancer,
stress reduction, complimentary therapies and survivorship.
Monkey Business: Children and Family Support Group - An ongoing support and activity group for kids/teens, ages 5-17 who have a family member with cancer. This support group actually consists of two separate groups; one for the children and another
for the adults who accompany them.
Men's Support - Chaplain Robert, himself a cancer survivor offers support unique to the needs of men, whether you are the patient or you are supporting a loved one through cancer.
Young Adults with Cancer - If you are a young adult (ages 18-30) diagnosed with cancer, our social workers will provide information about support especially for you.
