Visiting a Patient at EMC
Family and friends are a great source of support and encouragement for the recuperating patient, and they are welcome at Emanuel Medical Center.
We do ask that visitors observe our rules and visiting hours in order to allow us to provide the best care possible. For the safety and protection of our patients, we ask that friends and family refrain from visiting if they have a fever, cough and/or other signs and symptoms of illness. In addition, we ask that visitors are aware and considerate of other patients. The patient being visited may feel fine, but the other patient(s) in the room or on the medical floor may not.

Visiting Hours:
11:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Fathers and siblings of the newborn are welcome to visit between 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Non-related children under 12 years of age are not allowed to visit patients in this unit. All other visitors must follow the visiting hours of 11:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. and register with the volunteer in the waiting room to obtain a visitor badge. Visitors are limited to two at a time
per patient.
Specialty units, such as Pediatrics or CCU may have other specific guidelines. Please check with the nurse.
In the best interest of our patients, we offer you the following tips.
Please know and follow visiting hours. They are designed to allow the patient a liberal amount of time for visitors. A visit of 10 – 20 minutes is usually enough for both the patient and visitor.
• Only two visitors at a time per patient.
• A hospital is not a fun place for small children to visit. Unless a child is visiting their parent or grandparent, it is recommended that children under the age of 12 not be a part of your visit – for the health of your child, as well as the patient.
• The hallways are not large enough to handle crowds. Please do not congregate in the halls outside the patient rooms. If you have several people in your group, those not in the room visiting at the time may wait in one of the waiting areas that are available for your comfort and convenience. Children should never be left unattended in waiting rooms.
• If possible, try to schedule your visit with the patient. This gives the patient an opportunity to look and feel their best.
• Knock and ask permission to enter the room. This will enable the patient to be prepared for someone to come in.
• Please be considerate of the roommate of the person you are visiting. They may be sleeping or resting.
• Noise should be kept to a minimum.
• Please do not bring in outside food to eat in patients’ rooms.
• Please avoid sitting on the bed unless invited. Do not sit on the clean, empty bed in the room, as this soils the bed linens.
• Please be respectful of the patient’s privacy. If the doctor or nurse should come in to talk to or treat the patient, it is best to excuse yourself. This will allow the patient to ask questions that are personal.
• Some patients are too ill to have visitors, or may not feel up to it, but they may not feel free to tell you. Be sensitive to the patient’s needs. Perhaps it would be better to send a card.
• Keep in mind that anything the nurse might ask of you is for the good of the patient. Please be accommodating.
• Patients, family members and visitors can enjoy, at no charge, Guest Internet wireless access from most locations at Emanuel Medical Center. Staff can provide you with information about connectivity to our Wi-Fi hotspots.
