Turlock, An annual federal and state inspection that rates quality control, diagnostic imaging capabilities and patient care at Emanuel Medical Center's Ruby E. Bergman Women's Center has given the facility outstanding marks in all areas.

"Meeting these high standards is a great achievement and accomplishment with a new facility, new equipment and new staff," said Michael Iltis, Vice President of Professional Services. In March, the center opened in a larger facility with expanded services including digital mammography equipment and stereotactic breast biopsy services.

A US Department of Health and Human Services - Food and Drug Administration auditor performed the Mammogram Quality Standards Act annual facility inspection in September and found all items "in compliance" with federal standards.

"These extensive and comprehensive audits ensure that women can feel confident that the test results they receive are accurate," Iltis said. "The surveyor was impressed by the facility design, atmosphere and setting. She also commended the Medical Director, Walter Maynard, MD, for personally seeing each patient referred for a diagnostic procedure."

At the same time, a California Dept. of Public Health inspection was conducted to ensure compliance with Title 17, California Code of Requirements and the California Health and Safety Code. Again, the facility passed with high marks and no issues of noncompliance.

The surveyor also noted the "excellent documentation and organization of all quality control tests and personnel records at the facility," Iltis said.

The Ruby E. Bergman Women's Center provides digital mammography, pre-operative wire localizations, digital high resolution targeted breast ultrasounds, core and vacuum assisted breast and stereotactic biopsies and soon the regions first dedicated breast MRI system.
