November 2009 Support Groups at Emanuel Medical Center

Turlock, Emanuel Medical Center will offer in November 2009 a variety of community support groups for residents of Turlock and nearby communities. Support Groups

Breastfeeding Support Group - FREE - Check in at the information desk in the front lobby of the Hospital at 825 Delbon Avenue for meeting location - Preregistration not required. For questions, contact Roxanna Augustine, RN, CCE, LE at (209) 664-2666. This support group will meet every Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. No fee. This group is open to all pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Cancer Support Groups

Cancer Support Groups will be held at the Emanuel Medical Plaza located at 880 E. Tuolumne Road. Please call Regional Cancer Services at (209) 664-2434 for more information unless otherwise noted.

Cancer in Your Life Support Group - FREE First and Third Friday of every month from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Open to adult women and men who are new or recurring cancer patients, as well as those who have completed treatment.

Healing Paths - Writing Through Cancer Support Group - FREE - Call to find out when the next support group begins.Support Group will meet every Tuesday of the month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for 10 sessions. Open to all who are affected by cancer. Join in the healing process of writing and journaling through cancer. Professional writing skills not required. Call (209) 664-2434 for information or to preregister.

"Look Good...Feel Better" - FREE - Call 1-800-227-2345Third Monday of every month from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. This program teaches beauty techniques to women who are actively undergoing cancer treatment, to help them combat the appearance related side effects of radiation and chemotherapy.

Monkey Business - FREE - Call to find out when the next workshop begins. This cancer support group has been designed specifically for the emotional support of children, ages 5-12, whose loved one has cancer. This group utilizes a variety of techniques to help families develop a platform to discuss the emotions surrounding cancer. Class size is limited. This support group is held from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for 8 weeks. Preregistration required. Call (209) 664-2434 for information or to preregister.

Nutrition Class - FREE Meets the last Wednesday of every month from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. - Preregistration not required. The link between cancer and poor nutrition is one that is clearly established. The goal of this nutrition class is to help all people learn how they can modify their current eating habits in a way that will improve their overall health. Whether you are a cancer survivor or someone who just wants to learn to eat better, this is a class that will benefit you. This class will be taught by registered dieticians.

Hospice Support Groups

Please call Hospice of Emanuel at (209) 664-2550 to register and for meeting location.

Adolescent Grief Support Group - For adolescents ages 13 - 18 who have experienced a loss due to a death. Preregistration is required. A $15.00 donation requested.

Children’s Grief Support Group - For children ages 6-12 who have experienced a loss due to a death. Preregistration is required. A $15.00 donation requested.

Coping with the Holidays - Monte Vista Chapel - 1619 E. Monte Vista Avenue, Turlock November 5 at 7:00 p.m. - No reservation or fee required. A program to help people develop skills to cope with the death of a loved one during the Holiday Season.

Bereaved Parents Support Group - For adults who have experienced the loss of a child or grandchild. Preregistration is required. A $15.00 donation requested.

Journey Through Grief Support Group - For adults who have experienced a loss due to a death. Preregistration is required. A $15.00 donation requested.

Loss of Spouse Grief Support Group - For adults who have experienced the loss of a spouse or significant other due to a death. Preregistration is required. A $15.00 donation requested.

One-on-One Grief Support - One-on-one grief support is offered by appointment only through Hospice of Emanuel. There is no fee.
